SINN Fein comhairleoir Séighin Ó Ceallaigh has suggested social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter could be a useful platform for Limerick Gardaí to catch foolish crooks. At this week’s Joint Policing Committee meeting, councillors suggested to Chief Superintendent David Sheahan that a Limerick Garda Facebook page could help open dialogue between Gardaí and the public in tackling crime. Cmhlr Ó Ceallaigh said that they might even get lucky as “eejit criminals” could confess to their crimes online. Independent councillor and barrister Emmett O’Brien pointed out that this had happened in the past.
