ON Tuesday March 24 young musicians from string orchestra Ceol na Mara will join musicians and singers from Canterbury School, Fort Worth in Indiana, USA and amateurs from Redemptorist Centre of Music to give a concert at Redemptorist Church, Mount St Alphonsus. Oonagh Keogh will direct.
The concert is for this Centre of Music, a charity connected to the church that runs music programmes, including the loan of instruments, for adults and children in deserving circumstances. The concert will take place at 8pm; free to all and with the suggestion of €5 donation.
Ceol na Mara orchestra runs all through the year at UL and is for young musicians from ages eight to 18. The programme for Tuesday 24 next is a mix of different musical styles and embraces Americana, Spirituals, Irish melodies, folk music, classics, theme tunes, even jazz.
“The Musicians of Canterbury are very excited to be embarking on this, their first international tour,” observes Janet MacKay- Galbraith, one of the directors. “They are excited to not only be performing in Ireland, but also to learn about Irish music and heritage.
“We are delighted to be supporting the Redemptorist Centre of Music with our concert. Our kids are looking forward to performing with Ceol Na Mara and some of the musicians from the Centre of Music. It will be a fun evening, which we are sure everyone will enjoy”.
