FINE Gael councillor Maria Byrne claims that Ireland has made a significant recovery since 2012, when 15.1 per cent of the Irish labour force was unemployed. “In the past month alone, the number on the live register has decreased by 4,300. The number of people signing on the register is now 10.8 per cent lower than this time last year. Almost 80,000 jobs have been created since the launch of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs and the Government is now focused on spreading the recovery outside of our main cities into towns throughout the country,” she said.
