Limerick impressed in a comprehensive 1-14 to 1-7 win over Tipperary in University of Limerick on Sunday. Limerick’s potent attack, lead from midfield by Niamh Mulcahy, were too much for Tipperary and Deborah Murphy at centre-forward was causing the Premier defence all sorts of problems. This was backed up by a strong defensive display that kept Tipperary to two scores from play with captain Sarah Carey and Rebecca Delee particularly impressive.
Limerick started brightly with an excellent passing move in the opening minute involving Deborah Murphy and Niamh Mulcahy opening up the Tipperary defence and leading to a well taken point from Niamh.
Another attack saw a shot stopped but not dealt with by the Tipperary keeper and Niamh Ryan pounced to hit the back of the net. Niamh Mulcahy added a free to give Limerick a 1-2 to 0-0 lead.
Tippeary opened their account through a Cáit Devane ’45 but continued Limerick pressure meant the Tipperary defence conceded frees which were converted with customary accuracy by Niamh Mulcahy. It could have been worse for Tipperary but for an Orla McEniry save from a penalty.
Cáit Devane added a couple of frees for Tipperary as they rallied before the break to leave Limerick ahead by 1-6 to 0-3.
Limerick widened the gap after the break through tow more Niamh Mulcahy frees until Sarah Fryday scored Tipperary’s first point from play.
Limerick widened the gap further including points from play from Noreen Barry, Niamh Mulcahy and Caoimhe Costelloe to leave the score 1-13 to 0-6 with 5 minutes to go.
Tipperary substitute Megan Ryan got an excellent goal from play to close the gap but it was too late and Deborah Murphy got the final score of the game to leave the score Limerick 1-14 Tipperary 1-7.
Limerick host Wexford next week with a semi-final place looking a decided possibility.

Limerick’s Junior team opened their Division 3 League campaign with a hard fought draw away to Roscommon.
In a tightly fought game Limerick opened the scoring through a Caitrín de Bhál ‘45. Bríd Hannan, Niamh Tuite and Claire Keating joined her on the scoresheet as Limerick kept pace with their hosts who were reliant on the excellent Kelly Hopkins for their scores.
Claire Keating scored an excellent goal as the sides went in at half-time 1-6 a piece. Roscommon had a chance to go in ahead at the break but an excellent save on line from Ann Neville denied them.
Limerick added another goal after the break when Avril Lane showed great skill to power to the back of the Roscommon net to give Limerick a two point lead.
But Roscommon closed the gap and levelled the game in the games dying moments to secure their second darw of the campaign.
Limerick can be pleased with their first outing and improved as the game went on. They now look forward to the visit of Carlow for a re-match of last year’s Junior A championship final.

Munster U16 A Camogie Semi-Final

Limerick’s U16s fell short against a strong Cork side in Mahon on Sunday in the Munster U16 A semi-final.
In the first half Limerick team performed well while playing against a strong wind, with a strong defence restricting the Cork attack, while the forwards converted a limited supply of possession to ensure that they went in at half-time only 5 points behind.
The wind was less of a factor in the second half and Limerick fought back to leave the score with 10 min to play Limerick 2-5 Cork 2-7.
Limerick had a few goal chances at this stage, which unfortunately weren’t converted. While Cork finished strongly scoring 1-6 in the last 10 minutes to run out comfortable winners by 3-13 to 2-6.
Limerick will look to build on what was, despite the loss, a very positive performance as they prepare for a meeting with Tipperary in the final of the A Shield in two weeks time. On the same day Limerick’s B team will face Cork B in the U16 B final.

U14s & U15s
Our U14 & U15 development squads took part in a blitz in Charleville on Sunday. The girls performed very well and were a credit to their clubs and county and came away some very good results.
Eithne Neville Honoured
On Friday 6th February Club President and long serving member of the Croagh Kilfinny Camogie Club Eithne Neville was presented with one of the GAA President’s Awards in Croke Park.
Eithne was present with friends and family on the night. Eithne was presented with the award in recognition of her outstanding service to camogie as well as the Neville Family giving lands to Limerick GAA, which is now Mick Neville Park.
