Public to have say on Foynes road improvements

-

The Public Consultation process on route corridor options for the Foynes to Limerick Road Improvement Scheme will start next week, the local authority has confirmed.

Limerick City and County Council, through the Mid West National Road Design Office, and in consultation with the National Roads Authority are working to progress the Foynes to Limerick Road Improvement Scheme.

Consultants Roughan & O’Donovan – Aecom have been appointed to progress the scheme through the statutory approvals stage.

A study area has been defined within which a number of route corridor options have been identified. The study area extends from Foynes to Limerick and also from the Shannon Estuary to south of Rathkeale and Adare.

Paul Crowe, Director of Service, Travel and Transportation, said that each corridor is 300m wide within which the road alignment is likely to fall. There is currently no preference for any of the route corridor options and each will now be subject to assessment under the headings of Economy, Safety, Environment, Accessibility and Integration.

Public consultation sessions will be held at the South Court Hotel, Raheen Roundabout, Raheen, Limerick on Tuesday, 10th March 2015 from 2pm to 8pm and at the Flying Boat & Maritime Museum, Foyneson Wednesday, 11th March 2015 from 2pm to 8pm.

Mr. Crowe stated that the purpose of this public consultation is to inform the public of the route corridor options under consideration and to afford the opportunity for the public to engage in the process and to raise questions, concerns and comments for consideration as part of the assessment in identifying the preferred route corridor.

Drawings and a brochure outlining the study area and route corridor options will be available at the public consultation sessions and from the Mid West National Road Design Office and project website www.foyneslimerick.ie

The closing date for receipt of submissions is Friday 27th March 2015.
