THE installation of a water tap at Kilcornan Cemetery has been hailed by one local councillor as “a relief for all mourning families who have had to bring water from their homes to water flowers and tend to the graves of their loved ones”.

Independent councillor Emmett O’Brien believes that the new tap at the County Limerick graveyard will ease the burden of people having to transport water from their homes to the graveyard to maintain their family burial sites.

“This was an issue that was raised locally during the course of the local elections campaign last year and I was very much surprised by the amount of people who had to bring water from their homes, in some cases as far as 20 miles, to water the flowers on the graves of their loved ones,” Cllr O’Brien explained.

“To me, it seemed a no-brainer to install a water tap at Kilcornan graveyard and I know it will bring great relief to bereaved families,” he added.

Cllr O’Brien went on to thank the local committee in charge of the graveyard and the staff of the Water Services Department at Limerick City and County Council who, he said, “have been very helpful and mindful of the sensitivity in installing this tap”.
