LIMERICK hotelier Elaina Fitzgerald Kane, who is chairman of the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) Shannon branch, has called for the setting of more ambitious tourism growth targets. Speaking at the IHF annual conference this week, Ms Fitzgerald Kane said funding for the State’s tourism bodies was cut back substantially since the downturn and now needed to be reinstated. “Every euro spent on tourism marketing and development by the State supports €54 in tourism revenues in the Irish economy – which is an excellent return on investment by any standard and it is now time to reverse the cuts to tourism funding,” she added.
