Anger as over €12million spent on Locums by Limerick Hospitals in 2014
Sinn Féin Councillor Malachy Mc Creesh has blasted figures released by the HSE to representatives of the Regional Health Forum West this week. In documents released to the forum, a light was shone on the costs of agency staff for HSE Hospitals across the West. In Limerick during 2014 alone, over 12 million Euro was paid out in Agency Fees, at a time when the HSE has been under severe pressure to maintain services to the public. The spending on Agency workers in Limerick has risen drastically, with the cost of Locum Medical Staff more than doubling each year for the last 3 years.
Councillor Mc Creesh stated, “Successive Government cuts to the healthcare budget have had disastrous effects on developing services at the New University Hospital in Limerick, and it is clear that the recent HSE recruitment embargo and loss of Medical Graduates abroad have added to this problem across the Hospital Group.”
