WITH only 44 shopping weeks to Christmas, Limerick Fine Gael councillor Liam Galvin is calling for Gardaí to give the people of Abbeyfeale the perfect present of a traffic plan to deal with ‘boy racers’ next December.
Speaking at the monthly meeting of the Newcastle West Municipal District, Cllr Galvin said that December 25 last saw West Limerick terrorised by reckless young drivers for the second consecutive Christmas Day.
While he fully acknowledged Garda entitlement to time off at Christmas, he called for further action to deal with boy racers who gather outside the town on the Killarney Road during the festive period.
“Action needs to be taken in the town. This is the second year running that we’ve had boy racers gathering on the M21 on Christmas Day.
“I have to acknowledge the Garda presence their on Christmas Day after bringing this up at a meeting last December and the swift action taken by them to deal with a dangerous situation,” he added.
The Fine Gael politician also went on to highlight the goodwill of the local community and their willingness to cooperate with Gardaí on this issue.
