WHEN ‘A Fishy Affair’ opens at No. 69 O’Connell Street on Wednesday February 18, it’s worth bearing in mind that this comedy-drama originated entirely in the minds and talent of St Saviour’s Drama Group. Led by LCETB facilitator Karen Fitzgibbon, this is their 8th annual collaborative production, the city-based players having swollen from six to 16 in momentum.
Apparently last year’s ‘Heaven’s Above’ was such a success, with people turned away at box office, that the few bob made is reinvested to good effect. “St Saviour’s is going all out for it,” advises Fitzgibbon. “This will be fully costumed and we have built a set”.
She outlines the creative process of writing together, script supervision on her part, editing and then the organic fit of parts for players. One man Pat Hanley “who has been invaluable in my opinion” is a performer, was in on script planning and also cues the technicalities of light and sound effects.
“‘A Fishy Affair’ is entirely a new piece of writing and the setting is on a cruise shop – on which a murder mystery takes place”
Elaborating, we hear of international angles, an American spy, a French nurse and of course, de-nial is in Egypt as to what is going on.
Roll up for this 70minutes of red herrings on February 18 and 19, 8pm. Book at box office and be warned to move now as last year’s show sold out No. 69.
