THE Anti-Austerity Alliance (AAA) has cast doubt over Irish Water’s registration figures which they say are 15 per cent below the number of households that need to register.
According to the AAA, Irish Water have refused to reply to the claim despite assurances that they would respond by last week.
The party’s representative in City North, Cllr Cian Prendiville, makes out that Irish Water is understating their potential customer base by 260,000 houses or 15 per cent so they can claim that more than 50 per cent of households have registered.
“As with all wars, the first casualty is truth and despite Irish Water’s best attempts to show otherwise, these figures prove they are not telling the truth about their registration rate,” Prendiville claimed.
“Irish Water indicate they now have 837,000 houses registered which, at 47 per cent, is clearly still well below the psychologically important 50 per cent and this is after two deadlines have passed.
“The one thing which is clear is that even if you took Irish Water’s figures at face value, then the registration process has still been a failure and there is a massive boycott underway,” he said.
Cllr Prendiville is calling on people to stand firm and refuse to register or pay, while people who have registered, he added, can still be part of this campaign by boycotting the bills in April and May.
There was no comment from Irish Water at the time of going to press.
