Limerick part of €1mn for 1916 centenary plans

-

€1million is being awarded between local authorities in 26 counties by Minister for Arts, Heritage and an Gaeltact Heather Humphreys, to help them deliver a programme appropriate to 1916’s centenary next year. There will be a national and international initiative.
Against ongoing public consultation, she forecasts partnership between councils, what the Department of Education and Skills has planned for schools and the cultural programme being developed by The Arts Council and cultural institutions.
County CEOs such as Conn Murray are being asked to put a team in place, linking to her Ireland 2016 Project Team.
“While there will be a series of formal State events, I also want to get schools, history groups, arts organisations, sporting organisations and a range of other groups involved at a local level,” Minister Humphreys stated.
