THE LIMERICK Marine Search and Rescue Service has been given €70 k by the J.P. McManus fund to put a floating pontoon in the River Shannon so that they can save precious minutes in getting to a person in distress in the water.
The life-saving service has been given planning permission for the floating pontoon so they can moor two rescue boats and launch faster when they get a call.
The €70 k donation will cover the entire cost of supplying and placing the pontoon, which the team hope will be in service by May.
Tony Cusack, Chairman of the service said they are “very grateful to Mr McManus. This is the third time we have asked him for help and each times he’s been so generous to us. This will save precious minutes when someone goes in the water.
