LIVES are being put at risk at Bolane, Kildimo on the N69 due to a deadly combination of an extremely hazardous bend and heavy traffic.

That’s the opinion of independent councillor for Adare-Rathkeale, Emmett O’Brien.

According to Cllr O’Brien, the bend, immediately on the Kildimo side of The Beer Garden public house, needs to be taken away. He is now calling on the National Roads Authority (NRA) to provide funding for this work.

“I have received numerous calls from local constituents and customers of the Beer Garden public house claiming that gaining access to the N69 from either the City side or from the Foynes direction is lethal and they expect action from the NRA,” Cllr O’Brien told the Limerick Post.

“Along with the Kildimo Community Council, I have been working to get funding for a footpath extending from Kildimo to Bolane to allow safe pedestrian access to and from the village,” he said.

Cllr O’Brien went on to point out that there has been two recent fatalities near this hazardous bend and he is now fearful that it is only a matter of time before more lives are lost.

“While I acknowledge that Limerick City and County Council and the NRA are preparing routes for the N69/Foynes Port Road project, the simple fact remains that people accessing the N69 at Bolane continue to be at risk.

“While there are many things councillors can only talk about and highlight, this is one example of where action must be taken. The NRA must provide funding to allow this modest project be completed,” Cllr O’Brien said.
