LIMERICK has been announced as the host city for the 2015 Federation of Gay Games annual general assembly (AGA) after fending off competition for Berlin, Sydney and Santiago.

In 2013, Limerick was shortlisted alongside London and Paris to host the 2018 Gay Games; the Treaty City lost out to Paris on that occasion, but bid organisers are confident that they can launch another bid, perhaps for the 2022 games.

“Part of our bid included a proposal for a legacy event that would bring the Federation to Limerick to showcase the facilities that we have, so we will try to work that into the AGA,” commented Team Limerick organiser Cillian Flynn.

“We’re absolutely delighted. It’s a really nice event to bring to Limerick and it could lead to another Limerick Gay Games bid.”

The five-day general assembly will take place at the Castletroy Park Hotel from October 15 to 19.

It is believed that the event will see 120 to 200 people from approximately 30 different countries travelling to Limerick.
