The Chairman of the Limerick Football Committee John Cregan has paid the following tribute to John Galvin who retired from inter county football yesterday.
“On behalf of Coiste Peil Luimni can I say a very sincere thank you to John Galvin who has today announced his retirement from senior inter county football after fifteen years of loyal and dedicated service to our County. All who follow Limerick Football will recall his many heroic performances at midfield in the green and white and indeed football gaels throughout the country will remember John as the best that Limerick and Munster has ever produced. One of his greatest achievements was that of Leading his county to under 21 provincial glory in 2000. While fate may have determined that having played in five Munster Senior Football Finals a draw and defeat on each other occasion was to be his lot , such is sport but what a crying shame that the so called experts who selected the 2010 All Stars football team deprived the midfield colossus of an Award he so richly deserved. What an injustice to such an honest footballer.
The big man was exceptional and owes us nothing and has literally left it all on the pitch every time he pulled on a Limerick jersey. While his loss will be immense , lets hope that John will remain close to Limerick Football and impart some of that wealth of knowledge and experience he has gained over the last fifteen years to the next generation of Limerick men.Good luck in life John and thanks again for giving of your time so unselfishly”
