Templeogue’s run of form continued as they came through a tense contest with UL Eagles by 65-62 at the National Basketball Arena. Mark Keenan’s side are now 5-1 since their upturn and move to fourth in the Premier League Table. “It was a dogfight,” said the head coach. “You can see it from the score with both teams playing heard but we ground it out today and winning becomes a habit.” C&S UCC Demons continued their unbeaten run with an 87-62 win over Dublin Inter. The result leaves Demons nine points clear in the Men’s Premier League and Dublin Inter rooted to the bottom. Travelodge Swords Thunder are up to second place having come from behind to beat Belfast Star 92-85 while the return of Preston Ross helped UCD Marian to a 75-65 win at BFG Neptune.
In the Women’s Premier League, DCU Mercy ended Team Montenotte Hotel’s 13 game streak in determined style with a 61-56 win in Glanmire. Mercy Head Coach Mark Ingle was unsurprised by his side’s performance. ‘I expected us to win,’ he said. ‘We’ve been improving since the start of the season and even quicker than I’d planned for lately”.
Courtyard Liffey Celtics will top the Women’s Premier League through Christmas and into the New Year following an 80-62 win over Maxol WIT Wildcats. Suzanne Maguire was in superb scoring form for the Kildare side with a 23 point game high.
A buzzer beating floater from Megan O’Leary gave Singleton SuperValu Brunell a comeback victory over Killester and a 3-0 run in the Women’s Premier League.
UL Huskies picked up their second league win of the season in beating Meteors 64-56 at the UL Arena.
Portlaoise Panthers maintained their unbeaten run in the Women’s Division One with a 79-70 over Oblate Dynamos in Portlaoise. Oblate led by 13 points at the break but sisters Maeve and Catherine O’Sullivan combined for 31 points to see Panthers through.
IT Carlow had their first home game of the season on Saturday and made it count with a 76-71 win over Team Denjoe’s American Style. It was another sister act that did the damage as Aisling and Edel Hayden has 33 points between them.
Maree got back to winning ways in the Men’s Division One with an 88-76 win over JM&L Auctioneers Titans.
Titans looked to come back when Maree’s Cathal Finn fouled out but 16 year old Point Guard Eoin Rockall had the skill and maturity to hit some key baskets down the stretch in a 20 point performance.
Maree returned to second place but SSE Airtricity Moycullen maintained their six point lead with a 91-49 win over Tolka Rovers.
36 points from Sean Cantwell wasn’t enough to help Fr Mathews to their first home win of the season. Instead, Team Left Bank Kilkenny overtook them in 6th place with a 74-62 win at Coláiste Chríost Rí.
The draw for the Men’s National Cup Semi-Final was also completed yesterday. UCD Marian were drawn against UL Eagles while C&S UCC Demons will play the winners of a one-off quarter final between Templeogue and Travelodge Swords Thunder.
