THE young men and women of Shannon College of Hotel Management will move away from the concept of luxury hotels for a perishing night sleeping on the streets of Limerick for ADAPT Domestic Abuse Services.
Buckets will shake, rattle and pour with coin, hopefully, or you can support them online by donating directly to www.adaptservices.ie
Almost 50 students have volunteered for 24 hours this weekend to raise the profile of and funds for the charity. ADAPT, located in Rosbrien, operates 365 days a year for women experiencing domestic abuse, and their children (u18). The helpline is 1800 200 504.
“In the spirit of Christmas, we hope people will be extremely generous and supportive of the cause. We look forward to meeting many friendly Limerick faces throughout the event,” said a spokesperson for the college.
Their site is at AIB Bank O’Connell Street from 5pm this Friday until 6pm on Saturday 13.
ADAPT refuge co-ordinator Colette Fitzgerald said they were delighted that the students and management of the Shannon College organised the event. She described it as “a visible and central act of solidarity in taking a stand against domestic abuse would help highlight the range of services offered by ADAPT”.
She makes the point that this charity needs to fundraise €300,00 each year to maintain services which include refuge, counselling, legal and educational support, transition housing and extensive Outreach.
Meanwhile, the annual Limerick Post supported media appeal to drop toys, DVDs, CDs, books, linens and toiletries into the newspaper’s offices at 97, Henry Street for collection by ADAPT for Christmas parcels is going strong.
And the fundraising will continue this weekend with bag packing at SuperValu in the Castletroy Shopping Centre from Friday to Sunday 14.
