BADLY hit this year by inadequate funding and an ever-increasing demand for counselling by male and female adult victims of sexual abuse, Rape Crisis Midwest has cranked up the call for volunteers.
An information evening is being held this Wednesday November 19th in the Limerick centre at Phoenix House, Punch’s Close, Rosbrien Road (opposite Lidl exit) at 7pm and another at the Clare centre in Ennis the following Wednesday 27.
“We will be holding one in Nenagh early next year. We will be discussing in detail all the ins and outs of being a volunteer and we welcome with open arms anyone who would be interested,” said a spokesperson for the charity.

There are various short and long term roles available, including becoming a SATU (sexual assault treatment unit) support worker, a lollipop ambassador and a committee member for annual events.

Rape Crisis Network Ireland (RCNI) has launched their National Rape Crisis Statistics Report 2013. Important facts have been highlighted and can make people more aware: the report found that 91 per cent of perpetrators were known to their victims. Of all the people who came to Rape Crisis Centres in 2013, 23 per cent of survivors abused when under 13 were abused by other children.
