MAY 23, 2015 will be a historic day in the history of Broadford United AFC as the ambitious west Limerick soccer club hosts a very special friendly match against a Liverpool Legends team at its Cove Park venue.
The match has been organised in the hope that the funds raised from the day will cover the remaining โฌ47,000 of a โฌ790,000 refurbishment that has been ongoing since 2006.
Among the former Liverpool players taking part are John Aldridge, Ronnie Whelan, Jason McAteer, John Wark, Paul Walsh and Alan Kennedy, most of whom have won English league titles and European Cups with the world famous Merseyside club.
Next year will be the 45th anniversary of the club, which longย relied on community pitchesย before raising the bulk of the โฌ790,000 through fundraising and government grants to purchase its own state of the art facilities.ย Itย is one of Limerick’s most active and prolific clubs, boasting 298 members and 14 underage teams.
Broadford United staged a launch night for the glamour friendly at the Charleville Park Hotel last Saturday and tickets for the match will beย available from the club from Wednesday morning. Tickets can be purchased online at www.broadfordlegendsxi.com or from Maloney’s Foodstore, Broadford, O’Connor’s Butchers, Dromcollogher, the Home Office Shop, Newcastle West and Sean Hennessy Electrical in Mallow, Rathkeale, Newcastle West and Shannon.
The match will kick off at 2pm on Saturday May 23, 2015 and will be followed by a VIP lounge and Dinner with the Legends at the Charleville Park Hotel, where fans can mingle with the players who once starred for Liverpool FC.
