TWO pensioners in their 70s, understood to be from Limerick, were arrested in the North of Ireland as part of PSNI investigation into dissident republican activity.
The arrests made earlier this week at a house in Ardcarne Park area of Newry and are said to be broadly connected with investigations into the Omagh bombings.
The PSNI officers took the two pensioners along with ten other men into custody and they can be held for up to 28 days.
It is suspected that some of those arrested were previously involved with provisional republicanism and are being questioned in connection with the activities of the Continuity IRA.
A number of the men are understood to be from South of the border and Gardai assisted in the operation where a number of properties on both sides of the border were searched.
The men, who are aged between 36 to 75, are being detained under the provisions of the Terrorism Act.
