THE music of Mendelssohn and Jorg Widmann’s own compositions are central to Irish Chamber Orchestra’s November concerts as UCH and National Concert Hall dates will confirm. Hugh Tinney is guest on piano, with Nicola Sweeney on violin and cellist Rudi de Groot.
Perhaps most exciting of all, Fidget Feet, the aerial dance artists, will perform a circus spectacle on high wire to the music.
A principal artistic partner with the Limerick based ICO, Widmann (clarinet) has an expressive diversity along with a sensitivity to the instruments he writes for.
“His music is full of innovation”, observes Charlotte Eglinton, marketing manager with the orchestra.
“Jörg is much in demand because he combines composition with performance as an internationally renowned clarinettist. Unconventional at best, he likes to visit old works and reinvent them, aggressively though lovingly, and the Irish Chamber Orchestra is an integral part of his journey”.
Widmann and ICO have been blazing a trail across Europe this year, performing at the Storioni Festival, Eindhoven, the Heidelberg Frühling Festival and the MozartFest in Würzburg where the orchestra has secured a three-year residency from 2016.
Don’t miss Widmann and the ICO in concert on Thursday 20 November at the RDS, Dublin and on Friday 21 November at UCH, Limerick.
