ÉAMONN Ó’Briain, a volunteer with Limerick Youth Service, was honoured with a Stepping Up Award at Youth Work Ireland’s Consensus Conference at Dublin Castle.

Youth Work Ireland’s Stepping Up Award is presented to young people who have moved into leadership role in a youth club or group.

Limerick Youth Service chief executive Catherine Kelly said; “We are all so proud of Éamonn and he is fully deserving of this award and all the recognition he is receiving.”

Éamonn (19) currently volunteers with Limerick Comhairle na nÓg, as well as being the youngest member of Youth Work Ireland’s (YWI) board and a leading voice on YWI’s National Youth Action Group. He returned as a volunteer with the youth council when he finished secondary school and is now a mentor for new members.

Éamonn was also honoured at Limerick Youth Service’s Volunteer Celebrations three weeks ago.

“It’s been a fantastic few weeks and I am delighted to have received this award which was completely unexpected,” said Éamonn, a Computer Systems student in UL.

“I absolutely loved my time with Comhairle. It certainly boosted my self-confidence and helped me with public speaking,” he said.

Éamonn was one of the guest speakers at the inaugural Annual General Meeting of the newly merged Limerick Comhairle na nÓg at UL.
