Bottom Dog Theatre Company resumes its Four Plays (read-only) weekly series this November, an admirable initiative to stoke audiences and professional talent in the light of competing funded and international shows.
2014’s connective matter is war (WW1 anniversary a prompt?) and Sunday November 9, 8pm in No.1 Pery Square Townhouse is where it’s at and where to be each week. Pay what you can afford in to see RC Sheffiff’s ‘Journey’s End’. This will be directed by John A Murphy who has trumped with ‘What Happened Bridgie Cleary’ and ‘Juno and the Paycock’ this year.
Bottom Dog welcomes No. 1 Pery Square on board as new venue partner for each of three November Sunday plays and to close, Monday December 1’s date for Stephen McDonald’s ‘Not About Heroes’.
Producer Liam O’Brien remarks on “the stark difference from the grime and grim setting of the trenches of Saint-Quentin in 1917” to this “relaxed and opulent space to enjoy theatrical works”.
The audience won’t complain.
John Anthony Murphy is the newest ensemble member of Bottom Dog Theatre Company and the man who directed the powerful reading of Michael Frayn’s ‘Democracy’ for same outfit early this year at 69 O’Connell Street.
His cast for ‘Journey’s End’ has Martin Maguire (Ros na Rún), Nigel Mercier (Glenroe), Kevin Kiely Jr (‘The Dark Knight Rises’) and Bottom Dog founders Myles Breen and Liam himself.
On Sunday November 16, anticipate ‘Heartbreak House’, Shaw’s number by Myles Breen; for Sunday November 23, Martin Maguire will direct Noel Coward’s ‘Post Mortem’. All shows 8pm, elective charge, at No. 1 Pery Square Townhouse and Restaurant. Book on 085-208 5737
