SHANNON town is facing its very own Zombie Apocalypse this Halloween when weird creatures will crawl and walk in search of blood and human flesh – all in a good cause.
Pieta House, the support service for people who are suicidal, will be the beneficiaries of the weird and wacky walk being organised by local events company, HT Promotions, the Shannon Musical Society, Wolfe Tones na Síonna and St Sennans rugby club.
Scheduled for the scariest night of the year, this Friday October 31, anyone can join the fun.
“We’re looking for people to join the walk as Zombies – we will be doing scary make-up beforehand but they have to be up for a bit of fun and stay in character and sort of lurch and drag themselves along,” said Eileen McKee, of HT Promotions.
“But if being a Zombie is not something people feel like doing, then we’ll need them to shake buckets and of course, we want everyone to come out and see the fun”.
Children are welcome to join Shannon’s first Zombie walk, which will start at the grounds of the GAA club and finish in the town square.
“They don’t have to be dressed as Zombies – children can wear whatever fancy dress they like,” said Eileen.
“We’re having baloon bending and face painting at the GAA club beforehand and children and Zombies can have their faces painted from around 6.30pm.
“There’s usually a town bonfire on Halloween night, so we inviting people after that to come back to the GAA grounds where there will entertainment for the children. At 9.30 there will be a disco for the adults.
Zombies and rattling volunteers can just turn up on the night, and there are more details on the Facebook page of HT Promotions.
