A NEW digital training programme for Limerick jobseekers, ‘WebActivate’, was launched by Minister for Education and Skills Jan O’Sullivan this week.

The programme, created by the Digital Skills Academy, has been specifically designed to help jobseekers upskill to take advantage of the opportunities in Ireland’s high-growth Internet and digital sectors.

The first Limerick participants in the scheme will begin the course on November 17.

“I am delighted that the ‘WebActivate’ training programme is now available in Limerick. The programme has gone from strength-to-strength since its inception and has transformed the career choices of hundreds of jobseekers.

“One of the great strengths of ‘WebActivate’ is the close ties it has with employers and industry leaders. This ensures that the course programme is aligned with emerging skills needs and that participants are well placed to pursue rewarding careers, either in a growth company or in a self-employed capacity,” commented Minister O’Sullivan.

A first for Limerick, this programme is in its third year and has seen 50 per cent of the participants on its most recent programme rejoin the workforce.

The course is an eight-month full time Level 6 award that offers blended learning combining online training with on-site tutor-led course work.

The programme is unique in that it provides structured freelance work placements with local businesses.

Applications for the first ‘WebActivate’ programme in Limerick close on Wednesday, October 29.

To be eligible, applicants must have a FETAC Level 5 award, Leaving Certificate with six subject, or relevant work experience or prior learning.
