Storytelling festival in County Limerick to be a hoot!

Storytelling Festival Launch 2THE twentieth annual Lough Gur Storytelling Festival will take place this weekend from October 24 to 26 with the focus on keeping the age-old tradition alive.

A Primary Schools storytelling competition, Conor Lambert’s Custard Pie Puppet Show, fancy dress prizes, two one-act-plays in the Honeyfitz Theatre along with a mystery bus tour are just some of the delights on offer over the October Bank Holiday weekend.

Event organizer Betty Reardon believes that this annual event has proved to be a great success story as a result of the on-going support by the local community and all who attend. She also insists that the continuing focus of the festival is to keep the tradition of storytelling alive.

“This year we have invited the primary schools who have already participated in this event, along with some new schools to join us,” said Betty.

“This Primary School Competition showcase evening is a fun performance by all students who were selected to perform at the final on October 25. The emphasis will be on the encouragement individual character and the unique ability of the children taking part, to shine through,” she added.

Conor Lambert of the famous Dublin-based theatrical family and his Custard Pie Puppet Show will take to the stage in the Honeyfitz Theatre on Saturday October 25 allowing children to get up close with Punch and Judy during two shows at 1 and 3pm

The Owls from Adare Country Pursuits will present several species of owls, from the largest to the smallest in the world, on October 26 at 1.30pm and 3pm.

Children can meet and interact with these fantastic creatures as well as hearing all about the story of owls that are well known to be messengers for witches and wizards as well as close friends of Harry Potter fans.

It promises to be a real hoot!
