A MOYROSS school has teamed up with a local pharmacy to launch an innovative scheme to help purchase iPads for pupils that it hopes will spread to other areas around Limerick.

For every prescription lodged at The People’s Pharmacy in Watch House Cross, €1 will be donated towards the purchase of an iPad for Corpus Christi national school.

The school already has 34 iPads that are shared among the various classes, but it hopes to eventually have 60 tablets.

Teachers at the school have also been trained in the use of the tablets as a teaching aid.

“We have 220 pupils in the school; we don’t think we need an iPad for each child but we’d love to get more access and we think 60 would be a good number. They can use a whole range of literacy and numeracy apps that are fantastic, there are also apps that are particularly good for the children who have autism,” explained parish priest Fr Tony O’Riordan.

“The pharmacy has been in Moyross for some time and they thought it would be nice to give something back to the community. It might inspire businesses in other areas close to other schools to take part in similar schemes,” he concluded.
