FIVE hundred people turned out at the Clarion Hotel this Wednesday evening in support of the the Anti Austerity Alliance’s ‘We Won’t Pay!’ campaign.
Locals opposed to the water charges were addressed by speakers from the unions, local anti-metering groups and organisers of the non-payment campaign, that succeeded in getting water charges abolished in Limerick in the early nineties.
There was unanimous agreement to build a non-payment of water charges campaign across Limerick, with hundreds volunteering to organise their local community. A protest is also planned for Dublin on October 11 and locally on October 25.
