LIMERICK Catholics are invited to attend a mass in honour of the late Saint John Paul 11, to mark the Saint’s interest in all things cultural during the City of Culture year.
The Mass will also mark the 35th anniversary of the Papal visit to Limerick and Bishop Brendan Leahy will be the chief celebrant.
Bishop Leahy said that timing of the celebration is important as the Saint was called “the Pope of the family” and there is an important Synod on the Family in Rome in the month of October.
“Also, I will be leading a pilgrimage to Rome later in the month of October, coinciding wit the feast day of Saint John Paul, This Mass, in a sense, begins our pilgrimage.
At the beginning of the Mass on October 2 at 7pm in St Joseph’s Church in the city, there will be brief testimonials from people who attended the Papal Mass in 1979. There will be refreshments afterwards and an exhibition in the parish hall.
