AN eight-year-old Latvian girl who was living in Limerick city with her family, has died following atragic farm accidient in North Cork when she was visiting with friends this Sunday. A second girl, aged 11, was critically injured when the bucket of a tractor fell on the two girls at a firm in Newtownshandrum around 6pm on Sunday.
It is understood that the two girls were playing in fields nearby when the the incident occurred before the younger of the two girls was pronounced dead at the scene. The 11-year-old girl was critically injured and rushed to Cork University Hospital
The girls were staying with friends of their Latvian parents while they were away on a short trip for the weekend.
Gardai informed the parents of the deceased girl on their arrival back to Dublin airport on Sunday night.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out.
