AN investigation has been launched after a pedestrian was killed in Limerick during the early hours of Saturday morning.
The accident happened at around 6.45am on the inbound lane of the N18 Ennis Road between the Radisson Blu Hotel and the Coonagh Roundabout on the outskirts of the city.
It is understood that a 27-year-old man was walking on the hard shoulder died after he was hit by a truck on the way into the city.
Garda forensic collision investigators closed the road at the scene. Diversions are in place for inbound traffic through Meelick.
The remains of the 27-year-old were removed to University Hospital Limerick for postmortem examination.
Mayortsone Gardai are investigating the matter.
