PEOPLE’S Park on a sundrenched morn hosted an all-ages launch to Culture Night, unfolding this Friday September 19 from 5pm on.
With news of 70 free events taking place through out city and county, Limerick Local Authorities and Culture House personnel were surrounded by grazing beauties from the Urban Horse herd.
Joined by this City of Culture Legacy project’s Angela Connolly and children from St Patrick’s Girl’s School (one of 16 communities involved), their theme of ‘Individuality and Identity’ translates to Culture Night’s mission.
It showcases our varied venues, outdoors and in, for visual, literary, heritage, music and performance talent. Predictably, the local arts community excels in the give.
One of the busiest parts of the city will be John’s Square, according to Limerick Arts Office’s Lizanne Jackman. Limerick Youth Dance, Youth Theatre, Fresh Film Festival and Music Generation Limerick City entertain; Irish dancers from Scoil Uí Ruairc complete the set.
Emma Gilleece was at People’s Park to speak of another Legacy project (Heritage pillar) opening out in Milk Market at 5pm.“That’s Limerick City’ has been working with the five original city parishes to create ‘a living memory’ concept dating from 1934. We want to show the everyday in images and objects…using things that show changes in this century.
“We have weighing scales, cameras and original prints, a cinema projector, for example”.
County Limerick steps up to the plate with events in Kilmallock, Adare, Askeaton, Mungret, Hospital and more, every itinerary original.
There’s far too much that is exciting to compact into a newspaper article so speed on the wings of Minerva to www.limerick.ie/culturenight to plan the journey.
