A COLLECTION of 14 paintings depicting the life of Jesus Christ, entitled ‘Story of a Life’, was recently gifted to Mary Immaculate College by artist Nóirín Williams Mooney.

She began working on the series prior to the death of her youngest son Brecan in November 2009. The paintings were created using the batik technique, which is the name given to the ancient art of decorating cloth using wax and dye.

The ‘Story of a Life’ collection covers some of the main events, parables and miracles in Jesus Christ’s life and took more than two years to complete.

Born in Galway, Ms Williams Mooney has spent most of her growing and working life in Clare. She taught in Scoil Carmel before becoming a lecturer of art in Mary Immaculate College.

‘The Story of a Life’ will be exhibited in the college in December as part of the MIC autumn/winter programme for the Limerick City of Culture 2014 and will become part of the permanent art collection of the college.
