THE €3.5 million purchase of the former Golden Vale site at Lansdowne on the city’s North Circular Road by Limerick city and county council has given a significant boost to the local authority’s 2030 urban renewal plan.

Discussions are continuing with various local interests over the future development of the 6.35 acre site known to generations of Limerick people as the Cleeve’s Toffee factory.

Although not part of the development plan launched last year, the local authority have stated that they will give prime consideration to projects with a strong economic base that would form part of the 2030 strategy.

The site was purchased from Golden Vale plc. and proposed developments include a multi-purpose conference centre and a diaspora centre.
