Mid West needs more start-ups

Enterprise-Ireland-Logo_CMYKTHE MID West wants to see more Enterprise Ireland companies coming here, the President of the Shannon Chamber of Commerce told the CEO of Enterprise Ireland this week.

During his speech at a Chamber event at which Julie Sinnamon, CEO of Enterprise Ireland was the keynote speaker, Kevin Thompston said that of the 150,000 people working in EI supported businesses, 100,000 are in the Dublin/Mid-East/South regions with just over 20,000 in the Mid-West and West

“One of the reasons the Four Chambers of Ennis, Galway, Limerick, and Shannon have come together to form the Atlantic Chambers Alliance is to ensure that there is a focus and action on redressing this imbalance.  We want to and can contribute much more to that goal of Ireland becoming a sustainable economy built on enterprise, exports and innovation,” Mr Thompston said.

Speaking to the gathering n Dromoland, Ms Sinnamon said that there was growth in exports in every region last year.Adding that “exports are critical to job creation,” she pointed to the food sector, which, the CEO said, is the biggest area for exports and accounts 56 per cent of the Irish export trade.
