“WE LOVE her…•, and “Amazing”, have been the most frequently used expressions by the thousands that have lined the streets to see the Royal DeLuxe event in Limerick since last Friday.

From the moment the 4-tonne 30ft granny took her first steps out on to Limerick’s streets, the city has been transformed into a buzzing and exciting arena for young and old to witness this spectacular event.

Such has been the success of the event so far and due to the large crowds that have already seen granny, wee, smoke and pipe, swig whiskey, tell stories and walk around with her little red men in Limerick City, the final day’s activities of the Royal DeLuxe are expected to attract numbers well above those expected.

Chief Superintendent Dave Sheahan in Limerick advised those who are a planning to attend the event this Sunday that it is “hugely important to get into the city early in order to get the best possible vantage points to see Granny as she leaves the city.

“Barriers line the parade route and will allow for viewing on Rutland Street, Patrick Street, O’ Connell Street with the junction of William Street and Sarsfield Street to Sarsfield Bridge. There will be no viewing point on Sarsfield Bridge itself.”

Other viewing points include; O’ Callaghan Strand, Bishop’s Quay.

Stunning pictures of Granny walking near Limerick’s most famous backdrops have been doing the rounds on social media including ones like this one where she walked over Thomond Bridge to King John’s Castle.
