SEVERAL years ago the American Karen Underwood did a blues cabaret dedicated to Nina Simone in Dolan’s. Accompanied by piano and feather boa, she brought charisma, sizzle and wonderful music arrangements to her show. Her voice is supple.
Underwood is back this month at Kilmallock’s Friar’s Gate on Sunday 14, 8pm in the county and in Dolan’s Upstairs for city folk, Wednesday 17. Make time to enjoy her latest tour, “a fabulous night of diva entertainment”.
“‘The Ladies Lost And Found’ is a night in concert with divas that left us too soon,” explains the Chicago chanteuse. “These are the women who enjoyed excesses and excellence, the women whose music we cried to and made love to, listening to them sing a story of love and pain”.
It’s a cabaret for women such as Janice Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Billie Holiday, Whitney Houston and more whose legacies are fabulous.
“They may no longer be with us but their music lingers in our hearts.”
John O’Brien is musical director and accompanist.
