LIMERICK National City of Culture and Music Generation are calling on all singers and choirs to take part in a unique choral event, which will be performed in The Culture Factory from October 16 to 19.
The Shouting Fence is a large-scale community choral project, produced by Limerick National City of Culture, working in association with Music Generation.
It will involve more than 300 local singers and choirs, including a children’s choir, along with the twelve soloists from The Shout, a UK choir specially formed for the project.
The project is a musical manifesto against the wall in Palestine, and by extension against all walls – literal and figurative – constructed in the name of extremist ideologies.
It is a choral project, but also a theatrical event that will see the performers sing to each other across a divide.
Barricaded between the choirs will be the audience, as an acoustic battle rages over their heads.
Rehearsals led by Máire Keary Scanlon will be held once a week throughout September and early October, with full choir rehearsals on October 11, 12 and 15, prior to the opening on October 16.
The Shouting Fence will be performed publicly for a maximum of six performances at 7pm with 5pm performances at the weekend. The piece lasts approximately 50 mins.
