A CAREER in politics is a bit like a children’s playground. It can be a dizzy ride with ups, downs, swings and slides aplenty.
And Fine Gael councillor for City West and family man Daniel Butler is as adept at traversing the wily world of local politics as he is at a giddy maze of kiddie rides. His four-year-old little girl Layla is now keeping him in trim by putting him through his paces at the newly opened playground at the Crescent Shopping Centre in Dooradoyle.
“She’s been waiting for it since I told her about it at the election and even at four she does not forget!” joked Cllr Butler.
The Fine Gael councillor welcomed the new amenity and said “it has been long-awaited for local families like my own”.
The playground is located near the Limerick City and County Council buildings towards the newer section of the Crescent Shopping Centre. It has been an issue that has been to the forefront of many election campaigns in City West earlier this year.
“During the election campaign family amenities was a huge issue on the doors. We are living in the largest populated area of Limerick and we have no family or youth amenities. This really is a drop in the ocean of what is needed,” said Cllr Butler.
“The planned park in Mungret has plans for a very large playground that is more in line with the requirements of the area and the sooner this is built the better. Young families here are crying out for it a long time with some of the families grown up now. So we need to move and move now,” the Raheen-based councillor added.
Cllr Butler went on to thank the Crescent Shopping Centre management for their work on the development and encouraged local families to use the new playground.
