Liverpool residents form support group for Limerick girl Sophie

Screen shot 2014-08-11 at 16.00.28KIND-HEARTED Liverpool residents have launched a campaign to show support for a critically ill eight-year-old girl from Limerick.

Sophie Mulcahy suffers from an extremely rare condition named 1q43 Deletion and her father Liam takes part in regular fundraisers for her.

During a charity cycle in Liverpool this summer in honour of 96 football fans who died at the Hillsborough stadium disaster in 1989, Liam and five friends had their bicycles stolen while visiting Anfield football stadium, home of Liverpool FC. The incident caused outrage among residents in the Merseyside city, who have since rallied behind Liam’s family.

A Facebook group entitled ‘To Sophie, from the people of Liverpool’ has been set up by Dawn Hall, a senior carer in a nursing home in the city, and it currently has almost 1,000 members. The group contains a link to an online charity page where people can make a donation to a fund for Sophie.

Liam expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Dawn for setting up the group, and to everyone from Liverpool who has actively tried to help since the bicycle theft in June.
