A LIMERICK couple’s pet pooch had a lucky escape on Sunday, August 3 when he survived a 300-foot plunge into the Atlantic.

Vimes the fox terrier, a rescue dog adopted by his owners from Limerick Animal Welfare, fell over the edge at Look Out Point, Dunlicky near Kilkee around 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

The Irish Coast Guard was alerted and Kilkee Coast Guard members raced to the scene; Vimes had made his way safely to shore and was found uninjured at the base of the cliff.

Vimes’s owners, Deirdre O’Shaughnessy from Kilfinane and Brian Stokes from Oola, were on honeymoon in Italy at the time of his ordeal and Vimes was being cared for by Deirdre’s parents.

It’s understood that he got too close to the cliff edge and lost his footing.

Vimes has his own Twitter account @VimesTheDog with more than 700 followers.

Following his cliff escapade, he tweeted a photograph of himself snoozing in his bed saying: “Taking it easy now! Me when I’m not adventuring and causing a small maritime crisis.”
