VISUAL artist Joy Gerrard has been commissioned to create a series of artworks for Terryglass Quay that have a colloborative element for the 16th Terryglass Arts Festival, running August 13 to 17.
Born locally in Coolbawn, Gerrard has chosen ‘rainbows’ as the theme of her commission She is looking for members of the public to send her images of rainbows on or near Lough Derg.
A graduate of the National College of Art in Dublin, Gerrard has postgraduate degrees from the Royal College of Art in London and has exhibited internationally.
She plans to include the sought images in a small publication that will be part of the exhibition in Terryglass. All images that are printed in the publication will be acknowledged.
This artist has also been commissioned to install a major public art sculpture in Borrisokane Community College.
Terryglass Festival chairperson Andrea Egan said she was really looking forward to seeing the visual art collaboration with Joy and members of the public.
“Joy is an artist of international acclaim and has exhibited in Dublin, Cork and London as well as in galleries in Finland and the USA. It is a tremendous honour to have Joy with us for the festival and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing this commission”.

Stony Thursday calls
THIS Friday August 8 is the closing date for poetry submissions to Stony Thursday Book, the annual compendium that embraces local, national and international poets. The Book will be published for CUISLE, Limerick City’s International Poetry Festival, another one listed for October. This will be the 39th edition and editor is Peter Sirr.

Knitwear designer Caroline Mitchell, LSAD trained and Limerick based, shows a retrospective of knitwear, crochet, embroidery detail at Hunt Museum for August.
Museum manager Naomi O’Nolan has chosen a John Shinnors for the venue’s painting of the month.
