SET for Ennis, operating from Wednesday August 13 to Sunday 17 out of Glór, Merriman Summer School will be directed by Dr Patricia Coughlan, Professor Emerita of English at UCC. Under the banner of the ‘Emotional Life of Ireland’, expect an exploration of what legacies have been left by our alleged difficulty in understanding and dealing with our emotions.
Poetry and poets feature strongly next month. Look forward to a morning seminar series in English on ‘Reading Edna O’Brien’ and one in Irish dealing with aspects of emotion in the writings of Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Tomás Ó Criomhthain and Seosamh Mac Grianna.
There will be poetry readings from William Wall, Paula Meehan and Bernard O’Donoghue and plenty of music, formal and informal. Limerick Post also hears of a talk by sean nós singer Lillis O Laoire and colleagues, incorporating performances – ‘Emotion in the Irish Song Tradition’.
