THE NUMBER of people signing on the live register in Limerick has gone up by more than thousand people since last month.
According to figures just released by the Central Statistics Office, there were 32,970 people signing on between all offices in Limerick city and county in July. This compares to 31,867 the previous month.
The figures buck the trend compared to other parts of the country and the Midwest region as a whole.
The number of people signing on in the region in July dropped by 2,760 on the figures for this time last year.
Seasonally adjusted figures for the Midwest show that although the numbers signing on have jumped by 784 since last month, the overall numbers have fallen year on year to 33,716.
The majority of those signing on are aged 25 or over and unemployed men outnumbered women by almost 6,000, with 19,898 men signing on as compared to 13,818 women.
Nationally, this was the twenty-fifth consecutive month in which the live register figures dropped.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has now fallen to 11.5% as compared with a peak of 15.1% just two years ago.
