20130426_Shannon_Airport_Silage_0624DAIL deputies Clare Daly and Mick Wallace have been released from Garda custody in Shannon after being arrested on the tarmac attempting to inspect two US military planes.

The two were taken to Shannon Garda Station and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

Speaking to the Limerick Post immediately after their release both have said they were “very well treated” by airport security and Gardai.

Deputy Daly said, “We had hoped to get to the plane and find it open to find evidence that arms were being transported”.

Deputy Wallace said, “We have raised this repeatedly in the Dail and we were hoping to find evidence. That is why we came here.”

The two deputies gained access to the airport by climbing over a fence. Deputy Daly was injured when she fell in the attempt.

The two were released from custody on the understanding that they would not return to the airport today.
