FLAGGED previously in Limerick Post, Irish Chamber Orchestra looks to Europe and the east for summer night music to Ballingarry and to Kilkee this month.
ICO Leader Katherine Hunka directs the Irish Chamber Orchestra from โVienna to the Volgaโ, title of this itinerary for Ballingarryโs Church of the Immaculate Conception on Friday July 25 and on Saturday 26, Cultรบrlann in Kilkee, Clare.
โThis delightful programme features Gidon Kremerโs arrangement of Alfred Schnittkeโs Polka which is a little racy, scary but quite funny,โ reports Charlotte Eglinton, marketing manager for the orchestra. โHis unabashedly comical โMoz-Art ร la Haydnโ grew from Schnittkeโs extraordinary ability to fragment and reassemble diverse music in new and unexpected ways.
โTwo colliding worlds, from the clarity of Mozart to the chaos of Schnittke, make for one great parodyโ.
On then to Haydnโs cello duet demonstrating virtuosity and spirit from the soloists. โMozartโs Divertimento in B is full of sparking and dramatic themes, a shining example of the young composerโs most enchanting string music. Tchaikovsky romantic and much loved Serenade was written โfrom the heartโ as an homage to Mozartโ.
