ANOTHER premier trumpeted by Limerick City of Culture: ‘Wake’ is an international work by Chamber Made Opera (Australia) that opens on Tuesday July 15 for six nights. It plays at a private home in town, address unknown.
There’s a theme of ‘lifting the curse of the City of Limerick’. You know the piseog of St Munchin? Despite his holy orders, Munchin got so mad at the lack of help from locals in building his church that he prayed strangers would prosper here while locals withered on the vine – or over porter, the paper, whatever.
‘Wake’ is a commissioned work and word is, “opera like you have never seen it before – visceral, intimate and contemporary – a unique combination of music, performance, sound and video art. The heart of a home is revealed.
“Memories of the past haunt the corridors, old love and fresh wounds sing through walls, as a woman struggles to take control of her future”.
The creators are Maeve Stone, a Limerick woman and Australian John Rodgers. The composer/ sound designer is Tom Lane and some of the background team is locally based.
Ticketing to this intriguing event is through Lime Tree Theatre box office, www.limetreetheatre.ie. We can only learn of the address for ‘Wake’ on booking.
