FRANK McCourt Museum on Hartstonge Street opens its generous doors this Friday June 20, 7pm for a night of mixed arts – visual, performance and a fundraising exhibition.

The driving force is Occupy Space and associated artists. They have created ‘Id Engager’, with a nod to Freud in this live show by Niamh Murphy, Siobh McGrane, Francis Fay, Elaine Mckay and John Yelverton Freeman, who is also curator.

Occupy Space’s Orlaith Treacy suggests we all head along to Leamy House for a bright, bright evening. “Leave reality behind and join us as we beckon the boldness in us all, and let the ‘Id’ engage! The night features a range of powerful performances by [named artists]“.

Each performance has a time span of 5-10minutes and is an original piece, with some engagement with the audience.

“There will be drinks served along with the holding of a raffle where you have the opportunity to win a beautiful piece of work from some truly incredible artists. We are raffling work by artists Áine Phillips, Eva Byrne, Robert Ellis and Rachel Clancy which has been very kindly donated”.

Occupy Space’s current visual arts show ‘Underline’ is on view and will be until June 28 at this quirky space. Their thanks to Una Heaton of the museum, Victoria Snooker Club and Arts Council of Ireland for their help in enabling.

FIONA Linnane’s name made Arts page for the Easter world premiere of ‘spirestone’, a majestic and truly beautiful choral work with words by Mary Coll, platformed by Limerick Choral Union and Orchestra.

This Limerick woman is in the news again with the launch of her new album this Saturday 21 at 3pm, Rathkeale Arts Centre. We’re told: “Magic is a collection of works for solo piano by [this] Irish composer.

“It has been inspired by the magic of everyday things – from broken merry go rounds, wee Scottish nephews, watching scary movies on a sunny day – and cites influences from twelve tone serialism to medieval allegory”.

Pianist Aoife Chawke and magician Steve Spade will enchant along with Linnane at the Saturday launch. CD and sheet music on sale.
