NINE new luxurious inpatient suites were opened at Barrington’s Hospital as part of an ongoing expansion at the facility, which now employs 125 staff.
Finance Minister Michael Noonan was on hand last Monday to officially open the suites, which marked the completion of phase one in the delivery of an Orthopaedic Joint Service at the hospital.
Barrington’s Hospital will be the first private facility in the Mid-West region to treat patients undergoing hip and knee replacement surgery.
The new inpatient suites will accommodate patients staying overnight after undergoing various surgical procedures such as hysterectomies, removal of gallbladder, tonsillectomies and prostate treatment. They are designed to complement the patient’s recovery process, incorporating bright modern design with state-of-the-art healthcare technology, home comforts and scenic views of the historic Abbey River.
Barrington’s has steadily increased its workforce by over 30 per cent in the last five years and it is now one of the largest private employers in the King’s Island area of Limerick.
A further 30 jobs will be created at the facility in the next two years in the clinical, nursing, allied health professionals and administrative support areas.
Over 70 Consultants attend the hospital offering an extensive range of inpatient and outpatient services. Last year alone 13,000 surgical patients and over 30,000 outpatients attended the hospital.
